Fyodor Plevako in a jury trial

published on Sep 29, 19

Canvas, oil The painting is dedicated to the history of Russian jurisprudence. Work on the canvas took more than a year. The plot is made in the style of ornamentalism and consists of more than ten thousand patterns, written with the finest brush by hand. The composition includes about forty figures. In addition to the main character of the picture - the famous lawyer Fyodor Plevako, in the plot you can see elements of architecture of the Lawyer House in St. Petersburg, the interior of the courtroom at the time of the meeting; Judges hear the circumstances of the case. At the trial there are many lawyers of the time. In the foreground, I placed the jury figures. In addition to ornamentalism, I applied a surrealism technique to the picture; - the jury figures located on the right hand of the viewer turn into balusters and their heads transform into smooth oval shapes resembling eggs. Direct work on the canvas was preceded by a voluminous creative search, embodied in many pencil sketches and sketches.
