tempera on paper In April, 2015, a book for children ,,The Swiss fairy tales,, was published in Kiev. The customer wanted me to do the illustraions in a vitrage style, so the readers will feel themselves like inside of a medievel castle, watching stained glass windows. Though the faces I decided to make like they were drawn on one piece of glass. And here is an illustration I have made for it. This story is like a legend, ,,The Heart of Alps,,. It is about a man called Sebastian, who lived a long time ago, in an ancient Switzerland, hunted and helped people of his native valley. Once he went to the mountains to search a pass to another valley, hoping to find some food. On his way he met Ibex, Spirit of Life, who warned him, that there is no life on his way from here. The very moment I have chosen to portray. He thanked Ibex and go on, and that was enough for me to see him, how he should be portrayed. I have lighted him with sunset from one side (the last sunray for him), and from another side - with magic blue shining, which will take him away. At last, he came to the House of Clouds, where the Spirit of Clouds lives, and made a request - for people of his native valley will live in happiness and wellbeing. The Spirit asked him if he wants to help more and how he will pay. Sebastian answered: ,,I will give you the most worthwhile I have - myself,,. And in this very moment he felt himself light and airy like a cloud and saw he became clear, started to forget his human life and became The Spirit of Man of mountain. And his heart will beating in the glacier of Jungfrau Mount, and until the glacier exists, the people of the valleys will live in peace and wellbeing. Thinking about Sebastian, how he should be portrayed, I could not imagine anyone else ,,playing his role,, but a world famous and versatile actor Hugh Jackman as Wolverine (a character from X-Men movies). I just gave him a shave and changed a haircut. I think, they have a similar qualities in common with each other.
